A little about the service…

Social Speech is a speech pathology service for children and adolescents (0-16 years) based on Sydney’s Northern Beaches.

WE RESPECT AND VALUE ALL THE DIFFERENT WAYS TO COMMUNICATE AND BE SOCIAL. The name “Social Speech” encompasses how therapy includes functional speech therapy goals to support children and adolescents to communicate their needs (self advocacy), opinions and interests with others. Just as importantly, we aim to educate others on how each individual communicates and learns best. We continually review the way we work and are always listening carefully to voices from the neurodivergent community - as we are highly passionate about delivering a Neurodiversity Affirming service.

Social Speech is a mobile service. That means, your therapist comes to you. Your therapist visit homes, daycare and learning centres, preschools, primary and high schools and community settings. This ensures that goals are personalised and functional. It also provides the opportunity to regularly work collectively - as a team - with families, carers, educators, and other health professionals (e.g. occupational therapists and psychologists).

Assessment and therapy is provided for:

  • Language delays and Developmental Language Disorder (DLD)

  • Situational mutism

  • Emotional regulation and interoception

  • Speech delays and disorders

  • Literacy (reading and spelling)

  • Stuttering

  • Special interest: Autism and ADHD

What is Neurodiversity Affirming Practice?

Neurodiversity refers to the unique neurological differences within the human mind. Neurodivergence encompasses diagnoses such as autism, dyslexia, ADHD and more.

The neurodiversity affirming approach believes in strength-based approach to developmental differences and embraces the fact that not all children take the same pathway to development. I aim to support each individuals’s neurodivergent identity, rather than mould them to fit the societal expectations coined from neurotypical individuals. We are passionate about looking at a child’s development and identifying the strengths, interests, differences, and areas of support.

I love what we do and you’ll see this in the way I work.
